Pilot Episode: Jack Mannion is hired
as Washington, D.C.'s new police chief and he's instantly greeted
with hostility by the city's top brass, led by chief of patrol
Joe Noland, who believes he should have been promoted. October
7, 2000:
- Dirty Laundry: Mannion is under pressure
from a congressman's chief of staff to quickly solve the murder
of a rich college kid who was gunned down in Georgetown.
- October 14, 2000:
October 21, 2000: Worst Block: Mannion
meets resistance when he tries to clean up the most crime-riddled
block in the city. To make matters worse, Temple is accused of
pushing a drug dealer in front of a car. Also, Ella is shaken
when a woman comes forward claiming to be Ricky's aunt.
October 28, 2000: Surveillance: Veteran
officers are on the verge of revolting when Mannion suddenly
switches their day shifts to evenings to reduce crime; McGregor
believes he is being investigated by Mannion; Ella is challenged
for custody of Ricky.
November 4, 2000: The Real Terrorist:
The FBI orders the city's police force to participate in a full
dress rehearsal for a possible terrorist attack; a teen who escapes
a detention facility goes on a killing spree; Ella fears she
will lose Ricky in a custody hearing; Nick and Helen go out on
a date.
November 11, 2000: How They Lived: Mannion's
harsh discipline of several officers caught stealing on the job
leads to a massive case of "blue flu" among the rest
of the force. Unfortunately, they are needed for riot control
because Fidel Castro is visiting the city along with a Cuban
admiral who bombed a flotilla of exiles. Also, Ella's custody
case comes to an end.
November 18, 2000: Imperfect Victims:
Ricky's dad goes on trial for murdering the boy's mother, but
Ella is fearful of what will happen to Ricky when he testifies;
a serial rapist is on the loose and Temple tries to persuade
one of his victims to testify; Nick discovers some explosive
evidence against the mayor.
November 25, 2000: The Jackal: The city
is terrorized by a criminal (Jack Noseworthy) who stalks elderly
people, empties their bank accounts and then kills them; the
Mayor comes clean about his sordid past; Ella is asked out on
a date, but she's not sure if she should accept.
December 9, 2000: Pot Scrubbers: Mannion
goes after a dealer who is supplying drugs to rich executives.
Meanwhile, his ex-wife, Sherry (Jean Smart), shows up unexpectedly
with bad news for him.
December 16, 2000: The Santa Wars: An
anonymous phone caller, who claims Mannion mistreated him in
the past, threatens the chief's life; a truckload of hot Christmas
merchandise is stolen; two groups of warring Santas fight over
the best corners to collect charitable contributions; a high-ranking
senator is arrested for drunken driving.
January 6, 2001: The D.C. Strangler:
Temple leads an investigation to catch a serial killer who is
murdering prostitutes, but after viewing the women's mutilated
bodies he doesn't know if he's strong enough to see the job through;
Mannion comes under pressure to hire a politically correct candidate
for a district-commander post.
January 20, 2001: Old Ghosts: Mannion
becomes personally involved in a case after a woman asks him
to find her husband; McGregor threatens a former I.R.A. gunman
who is in town for peace talks.
February 3, 2001: Vigilante: Mannion
searches for a vigilante who is killing men convicted of molesting
children; Ella learns that one of her neighbors is a former sex
offender.
February 10, 2001: Rage Against the
Machine: Mannion attempts to reunite a troubled boy living in
foster care with his mother, who is in jail on a drug charge;
McGregor tries to prevent a stalker from harming a woman; a female
reporter shadows Mannion to write a profile of him; and Temple
raises doubts about his upcoming wedding.
February 17, 2001: The Most Dangerous
Job: Mannion vows to better protect cab drivers after a cabbie
fatally shoots a passenger he thought was trying to rob him.
Also, a new U.S. Attorney (Richard Fancy) stirs up controversy,
and McGregor gets jealous when Nancy receives flowers from an
unknown person.
February 24, 2001: A Southern Town:
Mannion goes to New York to attend his ex-wife's wedding
and perhaps stop it; an ex-cop accuses Noland of covering up
a case 30 years ago that involved a politician's son.
March 10, 2001: New World: A respected
Vietnamese colonel, who is now a successful local businessman,
is suspected of running a sex-slave operation using kidnapped
Asian girls, one of whom is murdered. Also, Ricky refuses to
go to school and he won't tell Ella why; and McGregor's reluctance
to publicly acknowledge his relationship with Nancy leads to
a confrontation.
April 7, 2001: Night Moves: Mannion
tries to bring down the leader of a vicious gang who gunned down
a rival, while also attempting to get a suspected arsonist to
confess to setting a fire in a nearby park. Also, Nick is robbed
and beaten by muggers in his home, and 911 operators threaten
to walk off the job if their demands aren't met.
April 21, 2001: The Agony and the Ecstasy:
Mannion learns that his son, Jack Jr. (Rodney Scott), is addicted
to an illegal drug and that Jack's girlfriend (Allison Lange)
is his dealer. Also, Nancy's gun is stolen, a situation that
forces her to reveal that she had a one-night stand with a stranger.
April 28, 2001: Running Towards Fire:
Mannion investigates when an off-duty white cop (James Parks)
shoots a black undercover cop (Erik King) in the back during
a stakeout.
May 12, 2001: Fools Russian, Part 1:
Mannion is investigated by the FBI after he contacts an old informant
(Jonathan Banks) from the Russian Mob about a bank robbery in
which two former cops were killed; Temple's fiancée, Giselle
(Daphnee Duplaix), is shot during an altercation at the hospital;
Ella learns that her cancer has returned.
May 19, 2001: Fools Russian, Conclusioné:
Mannion is suspended by the mayor, while the FBI continues its
investigation into the chief's ties to the Russian Mob; Temple
returns to work too early following his fiancée's murder
and endangers the lives of several officers, including himself;
Ella undergoes a mastectomy. |
